Q. Am I required to take a course or be certified in order to notarize loan documents?
A. No. There is no state law that requires you to take an educational course or complete any type of certification exam in order to become a notary signing agent or mobile notary.
However, if you are new to the field, we definitely recommend that you educate yourself on the loan signing process and how to be a notary signing agent so that you can perform your job correctly.
Q. Does the state of California license notary signing agents?
A. No. There are no state licensing requirements specifically for notary loan signing agents. However, you must have a valid notary public commission in order to perform loan signings since you will be required to notarize one or more loan documents during the loan signing process.
Q. Why do companies require me to be certified?
A. Companies require certification in order to determine that you possess the specific knowledge required to complete a loan signing. It is very important that a notary loan signing agent know how to perform his job correctly so that the loan will not be held up due to improper completion or notarization of the loan documents.
Q. Do you offer a certification exam?
A. Yes. It is an online exam consisting of 100 questions. You must achieve a score of 75% or better in order to successfully pass the exam. You will be mailed a certificate of completion after you successfully pass the exam. You may take the exam as many times as you need in order to achieve a passing score.
Q. Once I complete the certification exam, how long does it take to receive my certificate of completion?
A. Your certificate will be mailed as soon as we verify your passing score - usually just a day or two after you successfully complete the exam.
Q. I'm not a notary public yet, can I still take the signing agent course and certification exam?
A. Yes. You may complete the course and certification exam at any time; however, you must be a commissioned notary public in order to actually complete a loan signing assignment since you will be notarizing one or more loan documents during the signing process.
Q. Do you offer any live notary signing agent seminars?
A. No. We only offer the online signing agent course and certification exam at this time.
Q. I'm already in the mortgage loan industry, should I still take the loan signing agent course and become certified?
A. This course is a tutorial that will teach you the "how to's" of being a notary loan signing agent. Of course "real life experience" is the best teacher, but you may still wish to take the course if you would like to earn the designation of certified notary signing agent.
Q. I've heard the real estate market is slowing down. Is there still demand for notary signing agents?
A. Yes and No. While the residential real estate and mortgage loan industries have slowed in most of California in 2007,
there is always demand for knowledgeable and professional notary signing agents who are available to get the job done right the first time.
